OUR ACHIVEMENTS

CSLD has achieved a lot within its 3 years of existence. Some of our key achievements include;

  1. CSLD currently has a total of 25 staff including short term consultants and young ambassadors. The Organization works with a network of 72 Farmer Based Organizations in northern Ghana.

  2. In the 2010 cropping season, CSLD in collaboration with MiDA and IFDC established 15 on farm demonstration sites in 5 districts of the Northern Region- Karaga, Savelugu/Nanton, Tolon/Kumbungu, Tamale Metropolis and West Mamprusi Districts. Through Farmer Field Days at the sites, CSLD facilitated agricultural technology transfer and adoption among approximately 3,600 farmers.

  3. CSLD in collaboration with IFDC and MiDA established 5 Value Chain Demonstration Centers in 5 districts - Karaga, Savelugu/Nanton, Tolon/Kumbungu, Tamale Metropolis and West Mamprusi Districts to facilitate value-chain linkages in the agricultural value chain.

  4. Since 2008, CSLD has built the capacity of 72 Farmer Based Organizations in the Karaga district with about 3,600 members in organizational capacity building. The Organizational Capacity building component provides training in leadership, governance, group formation and development, group dynamics and conflict resolution etc. Our objective for first giving our groups this training is to make them very formal, cohesive and efficient and sustainable producer, processing or marketing associations.

  5. A CSLD farmer, Mr. Samuel Mahamadu won the Northern Regional best farmer award for 2009. In 2008, Mr. Mahamadu benefitted from technical support from CSLD Trainers and Extension Agents. He adopted best agronomic and cultural practices acquired during CSLD trainings and expanded acreages under cultivation which won him the award. CSLD is proud of Mr. Mahamadu.

  6. Has trained 72 farmer groups in Business Development in support of agri-business start-up and development through improved access to credits and various farm inputs.

  7. CSLD has enhanced the technical knowledge of about 3,600 farmers in the Karaga District in crop productivity improvement through technical capacity building in best crop production technologies.

  8. Since 2008, CSLD in collaboration with its partners has supplied over 7, 200 bags of NPK and 3, 566 bags of Ammonia to farmers as part of their Starter Pack and in support of various Demonstration Fields to boost crop yield and food security.

  9. CSLD has also provided its FBOs participating in the MiDA Agriculture Commercialization project additional inputs including 7,200 nose mask and 3,532 pairs of wellington boots to promote health and safety on the fields and improved seeds comprising 380 mini bags of maize, 283 mini bags of groundnuts, 50 mini bags of soybeans and 14 mini bags of rice.

  10. The organization has linked over 50 production, 8 processing and 14 marketing FBOs in the Karaga District alone to other important players in the agricultural value chain such as financial institutions, input dealers, tractor service providers and bulk buyers.

  11. Through the Value Chain Demonstration Centres, CSLD linked a further 60 FBOs in various communities in the Savelugu/Nanton, Tolon/Kumbungu, Tamale Metropolis and West Mamprusi Districts of the Northern Region.

  12. Has successfully prepared and submitted 72 business Plans (BPs) to financial institutions on behalf of FBOs. The BPs helped FBOs to access credits served as guides for achieving their visions and targets.
