YOUNG AMBASSADORS PROGRAM

CSLD runs a Young Ambassadors’ Program. Usually, there are about 6 College/University graduates working with the organization. The young ambassadors are in the field with senior staff and trainers who act as mentors where they are acquiring practical field experience in facilitation skills, adult learning strategies, logistics distribution and coordination. CSLD supports its young ambassadors financially as well as equipping them with requisite skills to meet the demands of the competitive job market. So far 16 people have benefitted.

The Case of Ibrahim Abukari
Ibrahim comes from the village of Tamalgu in the Karaga district of the Northern Region. He completed Senior High School in 2007 and made good passes in all his subjects except Mathematics. Due to poverty he could not raise money to re-sit the exam as a private candidate neither could he afford the cost of apprenticeship training. CSLD realized his community service spirit and enthusiasm to work, adopted him as our young ambassador in the Tamalgu community. Ibrahim had already dedicated himself to helping the Kpanmanga Kawuni Songda, an all women and illiterate Farmer Based Organization in their record keeping and CSLD encouraged him to continue.

In the 2009 cropping season, CSLD supported Ibrahim to cultivate 5 acres of maize. He was provided with money for ploughing and provided with all the inputs such as fertilizer. He has personally been providing labour on the farm. Now, he is a full member of Suglo Nyagsa Group FBO and is undergoing training in Organizational Capacity Building, Business Development and Agronomic practices. He has also sold 7 bags of maize out of the 27 he got form his farm and enrolled in the Savelugu Vocational and Technical School.
